We are committed to data protection. We process your personal data (hereinafter referred to as “data”) in accordance with statutory requirements and seek to do so in a transparent manner. This Privacy Notice briefly explains what data we process, for what purposes and on what legal basis. It also provides information on contact people and your rights in relation to data processing.

Purposes and legal bases of data processing:


  1. We process your personal data (your full name, address, e-mail address, academic title, nationality, country of residence, job title) for the purpose of your registration for the Summer School and its workshops via LimeSurvey and thus to fulfil our legal obligations, to exercise a needs-based event management, according to §7(1) of the Lower Saxony’s Landeshaushaltsordnung (LHO), for which the data processing is necessary. The legal basis is therefore art. 6(1)(1)c, section 2 and 3 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
  2. Furthermore, we use your contact details (full name, email address) to invite you to the online event via ZOOM and to send you the access codes. For this purpose the data processing is necessary. The legal basis for this processing is article 6, section 1, sentence 1, letter b of the GDPR. The video conference will be carried out by the provider Zoom. Regarding the individual data processing by Zoom, we also refer to the respective data processing information on Zoom which you may find at the following link:

  1. We will use your email address to inform you on a regular basis about the Summer School. The legal basis for this processing is §3(1)(1) NDSG, article 6(1)(1)e, section 2 and 3 GDPR an §3(1)(1) 10 NHG.

General information:

Even if you do not exercise the rights below, we will only store your data for as long as is necessary for the above-mentioned purposes. This shall not apply if a longer storage or retention period is required under statutory provisions or is necessary for the enforcement of rights within the statutory limitation periods. If data is only still stored for the above-mentioned purposes, access to such data shall be restricted to the extent necessary for said purposes.


We shall not disclose your data to outside parties and shall only make them available to those members of staff who require them in the fulfilment of their duties. This shall not apply if we are legally required to disclose such data.

Please note that the provision of your data is neither a statutory nor a contractual requirement. If you do not consent to the processing of your data, the only consequence will be that you will not receive information or an invitation to the Summer School. This will have no negative consequences for you.


No automated decision-making, including profiling, as set out in article 22(1) and (4) GDPR takes place.


Your right to withdraw consent:


You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future. The withdrawal of consent shall not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. No set form applies for notice of withdrawal of consent and you do not need to specify grounds. You shall not suffer any detriment from the withdrawal of your consent.


Your other rights:


You have the right to obtain from us confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning you are being processed, and, where that is the case, access to those personal data. Alongside a copy of the data, this right of access also includes the purposes of data processing, the recipients of the data and the period for which data are to be stored.


You also have the right to obtain from us, without undue delay, the rectification of any inaccurate personal data concerning you. Where the legal conditions set out in article 18 GDPR are met, you are also entitled to obtain the immediate restriction of processing of the data. Please note that the restricted processing of data may be impossible under certain circumstances.


If your personal data have been processed according to number 1, 2, 3 you are also entitled to an immediate erasure if the legal conditions set out in article 17 GDPR are met.
